NGS brings to you – THE PURE WATER MAN

Water is life!

Next to air, the most essential necessity for the existence of life is WATER.

The ‘DIRTY’ secret of water in our country:

Drinking water in Nigeria is a precious commodity. Despite possessing immense natural wealth like Gold, oil and diamonds, Nigeria is unable to accommodate the basic water needs of its population.

Nigeria is located in coastal Western Africa with an abundant natural water source. However, there is a dire lack of SAFE and CLEAN drinking water and necessary sanitation facilities for the majority of the Nigerian population. Nigeria boasts a population of 174 million citizens, out of which 40% Nigerians do not have access to hygienic drinking water.

“All my life, everything has been about water. I want to have a bath, there is no water. I want to wash clothes, no water. I want to cook, no water. Always everything is water, no water.” -Haua Musa in an interview to WaterAid Nigeria (Age 47, Fikaji, Nigeria)

All tap water in Nigeria is considered to be potentially contaminated. The lack of this basic need leads to an economy in which poverty and diseases pervade. 0.1 Million children perish every year and the average life expectancy is only 50 years, in Nigeria, due to life threatening diseases like Diarrhoea and Cholera caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation.

PURE-WATER:

To tackle this crisis in NIgeria, commercially packaged drinking water came up in the late 1990s. This ‘PURE-WATER’ or ‘OLUMO’ water was made available in handy and disposable polythene bags. It was sold at reasonable prices at every nook and corner of the country.

SO, HOW PURE IS PURE WATER?

The mass production and huge demand of pure-water led to a deterioration in its quality and the negligence of safety measures by the unlicensed businesses.  The purity of pure-water is questionable!

Millions of Nigerians, today, blindly accept the so called title of PURITY of the packaged drinking water available abundantly in Nigeria. Packaged water a great way to quench their thirst wherever clean water supply is absent. However, in many cases, the pervasive system of corruption takes over and untreated water is sold as pure-water. The title is a far-cry from the actual reality of pure-water.

Also, these pure-water plastic bags are the scourge of Nigeria’s garbage issues. Improper disposal of the plastic trash leads to clogged drains and a polluted environment.

PURE WATER MAN

OUR SAVIOUR, THE PURE WATER MAN!

To put a check on the FILTHY state of drinking water, we bring forth our shining hero, THE PURE WATER MAN. He advocates the provision of safe, healthy water to every Naija citizen. He has risen to lead a multi faceted approach to ensure that the best production practices take place without any compromise on quality, the defaulters are penalised and soft loans are made available to all those Nigerians who aim at setting up a production business.

The Pure-Water Man is the ultimate endorser of Cleanliness, Purity, Sterility and Hygiene. To address the problems caused by inappropriate disposal of plastic bags, he proposes the use of eco-friendly and sustainable plastic bags and launches a campaign for the redefinition of plastic packaging.

The future of Nigeria, thus, appears to be a secure one with THE PURE-WATER MAN ensuring minimum environmental degradation and maximum safety measures for the production and packaging of drinking water.
